MHM Corner: Anvil Installation in Cold Weather

This afternoon I went out to the workshop to continue work on a hollowing gadget I’ve been working on for quite some time. The shop only has heat when I turn it on, and it’s been pretty cold the past few days here in Maryland. Everything inside stays cold and takes a long to warm up.

I had forgotten what I had last worked on with the handmill, and had to take a few minutes to remember. It probably took a lot longer just to clean a path to the mill, as there have been several other non-rodmaking projects that seem to always take precedence...

Beginnings in Reel Seats

I wanted to make my own reel seats, part of a desire to learn as much as I can about rod making. Simple slide bands in a variety of formats are easy enough to turn on a lathe, but there seems to be little information out there about screw locking seats. I turned to Mr. Garrison as the only source I could find and adjusted his methods to suit my needs. “The Book” gives instructions for a down locking assembly but I have problems with them...
